Avantea srl is a new biotechnology company founded in 2008 that has taken over all the activities of the Laboratorio di Tecnologie della Riproduzione (LTR), formerly LTR-CIZ srl. Avantea is therefore the new legal entity under which LTR is continuing its activities that include both the commercial services to the farmers (LTR is the only italian company producing livestock embryos by assisted reproductive technologies, around 5000 embryos per year) and the R&D activities.
LTR R&D is in the aerea of in vitro reproductive technologies, transgenesis and cloning, adult and embryonic stem cells, including human, and development of alternative tests for in vitro toxicology. LTR has set up an ad hoc ethical committee to seek critical review and approval for all its research activities. LTR, formerly as LTR-CIZ srl, has been supporting research and development activities through competitive grants from European (EU Commission and European Science Foundation) and national (National Institute of Health, Ministry for University and Research, bank Foundations) granting agencies.
